A Discus Aquarium can also be aquarium guide home to Other Fish to Create a Community
Tank
So you have decided that you would like to raise discus fish? But like
many fish enthusiasts you do not want to limit yourself to only one type of
fish. And really, with a properly set up discus aquarium, you do not have to
limit yourself to only discus fish. It is important however to follow some
guidelines when setting up your discus aquarium.
When you set up your discus aquarium you do not have to limit yourself to
only discus fish. Many experts will tell you that it is not appropriate to
raise discus with other fish, however if you are careful you can create a
beautiful community tank.
The most important thing to remember when you choose other fish to live in
your discus aquarium is that they are compatible with discus fish. When you
are thinking of compatibility you must remember that this applies not only
to how well they get along, but also if they require the same water
conditions. If two species of fish require vastly different water
conditions, they will not be compatible in the same tank.
Do not rush when you are setting up your discus aquarium. The first thing
that you must do is choose some plants, and it is important to choose only
two or three different types and use lots of them. If you have a lot of
plants in your tank, the discus will feel safe and are more likely to swim
out in the open.
It is possible to have cichlids and
tetras in your discus aquarium as long
as you use care in choosing these fish and choose appropriate breeds. Choose
some cichlids for the bottom of the tank as well as some tetras for your
tank. These species of fish will do well with discus. It is important
however to look at the type of tetras that you choose, not all types will do
well with discus.
But be aware with cichlids, a wrong choice can run havoc under your
tetras because they see them as live food. Besides a lot of cichlids love to
dig. Their digging can be a disaster for the plants in your richly planted
community tank.
But not so with the Discus. This species is peaceful and even a bit shy.
With a little research, and some care in setting up your discus aquarium you
will be able to create a beautiful community tank with discus fish as the
center attraction.
