Firemouth Cichlid
If you are looking for a smaller, aggressive fish, a firemouth cichlid
may be the solution to your problem. While much smaller than Oscar cichlids,
the firemouth cichlid is highly territorial and aggressive. On account of
this, you will need to make certain that all of the fish in your tank are
compatible with this type of fish, and that they all have enough room to
create their own territories.
Before you bring aquarium guide home a firemouth cichlid, there are several things that you
need to do. First, you will need to make certain that you are able to
provide this fish with the environment that it needs to survive. This means
that you will need a cycled tank with enough water for your fish to
establish a territory in, as well as plenty of hiding places and roosts for
your new fish. PH and water temperature should also be set with your fish in
mind. If the water is too cold or hot, your fish will be less likely to
survive.
Once you are prepared to bring aquarium guide home a firemouth cichlid, you should make
your selection with care. You should select the brightest, healthiest fish
you can find, regardless of size. While color and pattern are important to
some, it is even more important to make certain that you bring aquarium guide home a
healthy fish. While colors and activity will improve when they get better,
sick fish bring many more problems to an established tank than they should.
After you introduce a firemouth cichlid to your aquarium, it is important to
you observe the tank to make certain that there will be no territorial
battles as a result of the new fish. As territorial battles can be gruesome
and fatal to your fish, it is important that you make certain all of the
fish in your tank get along. This will need to be repeated with any fish
that you introduce to the tank after your firemouth cichlid has established
his or her territory.
I know its not always so, but it is my experience that Firemouth Cichlid
love to feed on tetras, especially my so beloved
cardinal tetras I know
I'm unfair and that nature is nature but I haven't forgiven the Firemouth
species for devouring 25
tetras
in one night. And yes I also that I am the one to blame.... but still...
With the proper care and time, you should be able to give a firemouth
cichlid a aquarium guide home that will ensure good health and a long lifespan.
